HIDEOUT: The Wodonga Water Tower

The First in the HIDEOUT series:

The Wodonga Water Tower

The Wodonga Water Tower was built in 1923 and was used to hold the water for the whole town. The water tower stopped functioning in 1971 and was scheduled to be demolished soon after. Luckily for you it was re modeled into a tourist draw card and is used as a shoe makers retail front.

What makes the Wodonga Water Tower a perfect hide out and base camp is its shear size, measuring 33 meters above the ground including a few meters underground and its one way entry. Having only one exit makes it easy to barricade and monitor. Also the one window apart from the large lookout at the 30 meter mark is barred and is a shutter window to ensue ventilation. The added extra being it's a water tower... so it can clearly store water and still have access to pipes and a water grid.

With one exit many could question how to escape or leave for scavenging. However a safe exit would be made by a retractable ladder from the top.

The positioning of the water tower has it's pros and cons. It is situated in the heart of town meaning an a large number of infected could be present being a major risk. However, it's proximity to food supplies, fuel, weapons as well as survival gear is all too tempting.

Wodonga may be a town and a city hub however it is a small town of no more than 35000 with many of these living on the outskirts of the town limits. Leaving the number of infected in the actual town far less than that of a metro area.

The fight to get to the water tower may be bloody but in the end we feel it would be a great option when the uprising of the zombie apocalypse arrives...
